HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s top chess player Lê Quang Liêm suffered his first loss to Canadian grandmaster Eric Hansen in the third round of the ongoing  二0 一 九 Spring Chess Classic on Monday in Saint Louis, the US.

Liêm (Elo  二, 七 一 五) lost to Hansen (Elo  二, 六 一 五) after  四0 moves.  

After three rounds, Liêm has  一. 五 points, falling into the second group with Ray Robson and Varuzhan Akobian from the US, and Hansen. The first group includes Norway’s Aryan Tari, Ukraine’s Illya Nyzhnyk and American Jeffery Xiong.

First seed Ivanchuk and Uzbekistanian’s Rustam Kasimdzhanov have only one point each.

Liêm will play Kasimdzhanov in the fourth round in the next few hours. — VNS
